Driving to Tucson
We left this morning doing pretty well on the highway when all of a sudden we were not moving any more. There was a very large accident on the freeway on the other side with cars in the mediam and emergency vehicles all over the place even on our side. There appeared to be several cars involved and even a semi. We watched while 4 ambulances went by and at least 2 life flight helicopters landed and flew off. It took us about an hour to get through the mess and then we were on our way again. Tucson is about 100 miles from Phoenix and it took us 2 and 1/2 hours to get here.
We found a very nice campground with electricity in the desert. We even put up our rabbit ears and we have some TV. Bill and Cyndi are camping over tonight in their vehicle. We had a wonderful camped cooked dinner of hamburger, etc., sat around and talked for a while until we all got too cold. Earlier in the day when we got to the campground we went to the visitors center and learned more about the desert. The flora and fauna are really different than what we are used to seeing in Oregon.
It is pretty in its desert way. It is funny to see a forest of cactus instead of pine and oak.
We are planning to camp in this place for a week and if we don’t have all of our business done in order to go on to Mexico, we will then move to another site because they will only let you camp here for 7 days in a row.
The desert is a new and fascinating place, we are taking lots of pictures.
