Out of Gas
The gas gauge on the motorhome has never worked since we bought it so we have judged the need for gas on mileage. Then the speedometer cable broke the other day and we were figuring by guess or by golly. And we were wrong. We went to the Post office and the rig started running poorly so I swapped out the fuel filter, a ten minute job, then on to the RV store to pick up our new bicycle rack and as we were leaving it quit running, sort of. We kept driving thinking it would clear up but wound up pulling into a parking lot near the RV store.
We were out of gas even though it would idle. It was a three hour wait for fuel to be delivered and it turns out we were in the parking lot of “Curves Cabaret.” You’ll never guess what that was. Yep, topless dancing. As we waited for the tow truck with fuel we were entertained by the homeliest hookers in daylight getting picked up. A strange day but we got our fuel and finally went on our way.
So, need to find a replacement speedo cable but will have to wait until we get back up to Phoenix to do so.
We also got more news regarding my brother-in-law, Jimmy. The prognosis is horrible. He has a cancerous brain tumor and the doctors told my sister yesterday that he has a day to six months. I will be flying up to Portland next Wednesday and driving to Eugene or Reedsport (where they live) depending on how well he is doing. Hopefully he will be able to go home to hospice care. He is 60 years old. It looks like 2008 won’t be much better than last year as far as bad news goes.
Von will be staying in Phoenix with Bent. Two of my nephews live 20 minutes from the RV park we have reserved so she will have relatives near by. I plan to be gone 4 days. Then we will all return for the funeral, whenever that might be. I talked to my sister last night. It is so hard for her. This is her second marriage, her first husband also died. Please send your thoughts and prayers to her and Jimmy. Finding strength through this is so hard. They will be telling Jimmy the news today. He is not himself, hasn’t been for a couple of years but no one knew why. Their two children drove up from California last night through the snow storm in the Siskiyous so they will all be there when he is told. We don’t know if he will be cognizant enought to understand. He does not remember friends of 30 years at this point. I hope he knows me when I get their. He has been a great friend for a long time.
