All work and no play makes greg a dull boy

All work and no play is about right. The job is interesting and challenging and I am working with good people on important stuff. The time should fly by and this first four weeks certainly has.

Random thoughts:

Diesel at $4.40 a gallon now. That would be over $300 to fill our 70 gallon tank. This is getting ridiculous. Once we get back on the road that is going to severely limit our travel. My thinking has been to move the motorhome once a month to the limit of the tank so we would be doing about 700 miles a month. Then find a free place to disperse camp in National Forests as much as possible and use the bicycles and car to explore the areas. The car will do about 45 to 50 mpg so that helps a lot but still it is becoming a major, major budget item soon to surpass lodging at this pace. I’ve been guessing five buck a gallon fuel and I expect that by Labor Day this year.

Doing some day daydreaming about bicycle touring. Found a website called crazyguyonabike that has hundreds and hundreds of journals by bicycle tourists from around the world. Pretty cool and a way to get up to date information about out of the way places.

Class reunion is coming up. My 40th high school anniversary. I went to the 20th and made an utter fool of myself but had a great time. (They created a special award at the Saturday banquet just to recognize my antics the night before) Von will be with me this time and I was single then so I will be better behaved.

My birthday today, 58. Jenny just got here so must go cook. Also got a satellite telephone call from Aaron from Iraq. Pretty cool to talk to him on the other side of the world.
