Joe Must Go by Greg

Von decided to help out with the recall campaign for SEIU 503 Statewide President Joe DiNicola by meeting with a team of people at the Department of Revenue building in Salem the day before yesterday. Revenue is Joe’s home base and he has a handful of loyal supporters there. Apparently it got quite ugly when a couple of them came out to where the signature gatherers were tabling. They even called the state police over to roust them out but the officer only warned the recall group not to block traffic and left them alone.

I got to thinking about Joe and the fact that he waited until shortly after he was re-elected to his second, and last, two year term of office to make this claim for over $100,000 dollars in overtime pay. It seems to have been something he premeditated for the full 2 years of his first term. The other explanation is that suddenly some light bulb went on in his head and he suddenly realized he was working all those hours and that the lord, or someone, thought he should be given this landfall.

So far he has lost every battle in this campaign but he refuses to quit and apparently continues to file BOLI complaints and pursues his grievances to the SEIU International level. We hope to hear the results of that soon.

I wish he would give it up. It has been disruptive and to some small degree divisive. I say small because my guess is that only a few, say 15 or 20 max, people agree with him.

At any rate, Von had fun. She went across the street to the L&I building and gathered almost 20 signatures there in short order. I expect she will be back to get a few more next week.
