From twigs to Hope by Von

When we arrived in Reedsport, OR from Mesa, AZ in the earlier part of March this year to help Kim with Jimmy’s care, I noticed a scraggley young tree in her backyard. As I helped her out for the three weeks that I stayed at her house, I watched that twiggy bare tree blossom and slowly grow young green leaves. It gave me a sense of hope and renewal. I think it was a blessing to be in Reedsport instead of Mesa (where there are no trees budding or anything turning green)to see this renewal of the spring season. After Jimmy passed on toward the end of March, Greg and I came to this RV Park on Hwy 22, west of Salem and set up in a spot that had a scraggley young tree on it. I now have had the opportunity to watch this twiggy bare tree blossom and slowly grow young green leaves. This is something that I would never have been able to see if we had continued on our travels in the desert country.

Every year when we have all endured the wet and windy winter in Oregon we all get the chance to watch the earth spit out some pretty amazing things in the spring. I think I was given this experience once again this spring so that I don’t ever forget how wonderful life really is after suffering some of the rough spots that life can hand me. Ever the optimist, that’s me. I’m going to try really hard the rest of my time here on earth to remember these two trees that looked pretty barren when I was given the chance to watch them turn into something very beautiful in front of my eyes. There is always something beautiful and wonderful in everything that is arround us, even though we may not be able to see it at the time, it will reveal itself to us if we are patient and keep our eyes open to its beauty.
