July 5 by Greg
When talking about Oregon climate and weather I have been well known to say that you can’t count on the rain going away until after the 4th of July. I am often scoffed at for saying so but I stick by it and this year is a good example. I started with this opinion about 15 years ago when I took off for a two week vacation with my three kids. We left Salem on the third of July. It was raining in the valley so we headed east to get out of the rain. I wound up clear over in Joseph in the Wallowa Mountains before we finally had blue skies. The best thing about that was I had never been to the Wallowas and it turned out to be one of the most relaxing vacations I ever had had, staying at a place called Hurricane Creek, so called because the creek comes down such a steep mountain grade that it sounds like a hurricane as it rushes down the mountain.
So we are hanging out in the Metolious area waiting for the rain to go away. If diesel wasn’t costing 5 bucks a gallon we would be heading out again but since we need to be back for The Wedding in a few weeks we will be hanging in there.
It is is relaxing though. We are sleeping 8 hours a night and taking naps in the afternoon and I am finding it hard to get motivated to do much fishing or biking or photography with this weather.
