Make yourself at Home by Von

The day was pretty nice. The morning started out as sunny and then in the afternoon the wind started up. I mean the WIND started up!!! Then in the evening the rain started. The wind was so strong that I was afraid that one of these old trees around would fall down on our motor home. Looking around there are quite a few that are dead and some that have already lost parts off the tops. We put up our awning because the wind was so strong that we were afraid that it would rip the awning off the motor home. So when I went out for my cigarettes I was standing under one of the bigger trees that we are parked near and hoping that that tree wouldn’t fall down on my head. I had my last cigarette at about 11:30PM before going to bed and I thought that I was seeing ice pellets falling. It is so dark out here in the woods that I have to wear my Petzel (little head lamp) when I go out after dark. It is kind of spooky to be standing out in such darkness. I really like the quiet and dark for sleep though. I didn’t realize how noisy and bright it is in the cities until I come out into the woods and sleep.

We drove in to Camp Sherman and picked up our mail that we had our mail service in Salem send to us. I got several knitting books that I had order over the Internet before we left Salem and am really excited about getting to some of the projects in these books. I also received two mailings from the Mid-Valley Recall Squad with signatures on petitions to recall Joe DiNicola, our President of SEIU Local 503, OPEU. I am helping the members keep track of the signatures that have been turned in in a data base for them. So, there was a little bit of work in the mail for me, but it makes me feel like I am helping in some way with keeping the data base for the recall. Tomorrow we need to go in to town and send the updated data base over the Internet to the Recall Squad.

In the evening Bentley spotted a critter near our car. He chased it and wouldn’t leave the car alone. He kept sanding up on the front of the car like the critter had gone up in the engine compartment. When we were in Gold Course, CA last fall we noticed that all the cars had their hoods propped open. We were told that they did that because the critters crawled up into the engine compartments and made their little nests. If you leave the hood up a bit they don’t seem to want to make their nests there. So, we checked under the hood to make sure that Bentley’s little critter wasn’t making himself at home. No critter. I even held Bentley up so he could see that this little critter wasn’t in there. That seemed to convince him to leave the car alone.

Well, off to bed now and hope I can stay warm in this 38 degree weather out there. I can’t wait until the time that I can take all these quilts off of my bed because it is too warm!
