Eugene and SEIU General Council
Well, that was interesting. We stayed at the Hilton in Eugene since it is the only union hotel in town as far as I know. Nice facility and we (SEIU 503) got a good price. Von volunteered as a page and boy did she have to work her butt off. There weren’t enough pages due to Joe’s shenanigans so those that were there had way too much to do.
Half the last day’s agenda of political updates and union building had to be dumped in order to finish off dealing with all the resolutions but they did it. I lost a one dollar bet that there would not be a quorum in the afternoon. A bet I was glad to pay off. Joe’s people seemed to be intentionally causing delay with many points of clarification being requested and there were so many frivolous resolutions it boggles the mind.
I picked up my motorcycle which had been stored in Corvallis and drove it here to Klamath Falls. I nice ride except I ran out of gas about a mile from the service stations. Fortunately I carry a siphon hose in case of emergency and a motorcyclist pulled over to assist me when he saw me pushing that 800 pound behemoth down Hwy 97. Grrr.
We will be in K Falls another week or so before we head south. I placed an ad in the local rag to see if I can sell the bike. Yeah, it just makes sense as much as I hate to do it.
We are still really enjoying the weather here in the Basin. 10 degrees cooler than in the valley with clear skies.
We had dinner last night with some old family friends and had a great time. Paula was a long long time friend of my mother’s and grew up in Chiloquin. Her dad is the basis of one of the character’s in “Buy the Chief a Cadillac” and is quoted in the introductory chapter in the testimony he gave to Congress in 1949 I think. Bert Albert was his name and he owned the garage in Chiloquin. Paula was shot in the back by a random bullet when a young girl and still carries a piece of the bullet.
Off to do laundry and chores.
