Civil War Reenactment by Greg
I always have had personal reservations about civil war re-enactments since I believe honoring the war actually means honoring the Confederate flag. Which is too much about honoring racism. Some who support flying the Confederate flag will say that it is about STATES Rights. I, as a child in the Boy Scouts, wore a Confederate “Johnny Reb” hat purchased at the carnival. I meant it to show what a rebel individual I was. So I had mixed feelings about these re-enactments. Not so much now. After attending a relatively small event in Klamath Falls and talking to some of the actors, seeing how dedicated they are to authenticity, I am not so against the concept. Or maybe it just has to do with how much fun it is to see a bunch of black powder rifles and a cannon be fired.
Seeing the effect of the smoke generated by just a handful of rifles and one cannon makes you realize how chaotic is must have been in a real battle. This photo shows what just 6 or 7 of these weapons going off at once will do. Imagine hundreds or even thousands.
