Oregon

We were in the state of Oregon for 8 days. It rained every day. We did have a wonderful Christmas with the kids and spent several days in Reedsport at my sister’s place where she treated us royally. She is doing well considering she lost Jimmy only last March.

We drove to Grants Pass on Sunday staying at the Super 8 there, which I recommend as pet friendly, reasonably priced and nice rooms.

On Monday Steve, the mechanic who did our conversion, delivered the trike to Redding for us. We had planned to have him drop us off in Weed but the weather was atrocious from there all the way to Redding where it wasn’t too bad. I spent a half hour in a parking lot trying to adjust to the different handling of the trike. It is a weird feeling they way it handles compared to two wheels. Driving a motorcycle you use counter steering to turn. This means that to turn right you push on the right handlebar. This causes the bike to lean to the right and starts the turn. It is counter intuitive at first. Now you steer by either pulling on the right to turn right or push on the left to turn right.

I feel like I am about to fall off the seat when I do this. Like I said, weird.

Yesterday we drove 160 miles to Sacramento taking Hwy 99 rather than I-5. I took it very easy getting accustomed to the difference. I am not comfortable at speeds over about 65 yet. I figure about 500 miles will get me feeling okay and a thousand for it to feel natural.

But it is fun.

Watched to Ducks play a great game in the Holiday Bowl last night. Another 10 win season for them. The quarterback was the star. Amazing to think that at the beginning of the season he was as raw and inexperienced as they get never having taken a snap in the Pac 10.

Today we will probably only do a hundred miles or so so we can watch the Beavers and maybe none tomorrow to watch the Rose Bowl.

The weather here is partly cloudy today. Yesterday was sunny all the way to Sacramento. It was nice nice to get out of the rain in Oregon. Von just said she thinks the best decision we have made is to winter in Arizona. It is 70 degrees there today. We hope to be back home by Sunday. None of those 850 mile days going back. More like a max of 250.

I hope you all had a good Christmas and wish you a happy New Year.
