Bentley's Trek on the Trike

Bentley went for his first ever motorcycle ride on Friday!

It is quite an ordeal to get ready to go on a ride. First you take off your tennis shoes and put on your motorcycle boots. Then you find your chaps and put those on. Next comes the leather jacket. Now the “Mutt Muffs” are latched onto Bentley’s ears. This part of getting ready is kind of a challenge with all the wiggling and the silky hair, but eventually they get on his ears so that the noise of the Trike doesn’t hurt him. I then put the chest pack on that I use to carry Bentley around in and stuff him in. The helmet is placed on my head, but first I have to take my glasses off because the helmet won’t go on while I am wearing them. Helmet on and then get my glasses crammed in so that I can see. Climb onto the Trike with Bentley on my chest and next plug into the intercom system so that Greg and I can talk to each other and listen to music while we are riding along. Finally on go the gloves.

It was a learning experience and kind of nerve wracking this first time taking Bentley out on the Trike. There isn’t much room between Greg’s back rest and me in the back seat so Bentley couldn’t sit or lay on my lap, so I held him in my arms. At every stop he was looking to move around ‘cause I know he wasn’t very comfy. Greg was so cramped with us pushing on his back that he was misrable also. So, we put the chest pack with Bentley in it on Greg’s chest and let it rest on the gas tank and Greg’s legs. Bentley didn’t seem scared at all being on the motorcycle and settled right in up front on Greg’s lap. Greg looked down and saw that Bentley was getting really wind blown so we stopped at PetSmart and got Bentley a Harley-Davidson T-Shirt. Now Bentley has his motorcycling gear. His “Mutt Muffs” and his Harley-Davidson T-shirt. At one point we think that he went to sleep riding along. We are really pleased at how much Bentley likes being with us on the motorcycle. In fact, that night when he and I were outside, he ran up to the motorcycle at least three times looking like he wanted to get on it. This is going to work. The public really gets a kick out of seeing Bentley on the motorcycle with us. With Bentley we can’t be shy with the public.

This week the three of us are going to go camping off the Trike and that will be really fun.
