Inauguration Day

My daughter, Jennifer, flew to Baltimore, where her mother lives, and will be attending the ceremonies today. I am looking forward to hearing from her.

I keep hearing others say that the long nightmare of the Bush administration is finally over but I cannot quite go there. All the disastrous conditions he has been responsible for will not suddenly disappear the moment Obama is sworn in. But, but. What an historic moment this is. I have hope for the first time in over eight years that we can and will see our country turn from the end of habeas corpus, prosecuting an unjust war, allowing the greedy to run amok unregulated, pandering to a fundamentalist right wing constituency, denying climate change, appointing and promoting the incompetent based on political affiliation and loyalty, denigrating science, corruption, illegal wiretaps, and on and on.

Barack Obama brings hope, and that is enough for today.
