Mont Belvieu to Galveston

March 28, yesterday, we checked out of the hotel after sitting out thnderstorms and made the short ride south across the Bolivar Peninsula to Galveston. Another miserable day weather wise. It was cold and windy. So windy that the head wind on the Peninsula kept my speed to 62 mph with the throttle wide open. Texas provides a free ferry ride to Galveston Island and because there are no open campgrounds due to Hurricane Ike we checked into yet another hotel, another cheap ass one that must have been under water during the hurricane. It is fight on the sea wall, the Gulf of Mexico is just across the street.

We’ve decided to stay here for a week, leaving next Sunday with a planned 400 mile day to a Louisiana State Park campground just outside of New Orleans. I reserved 3 nights there.

Hopefully the weather will begin to get better. We are getting clobbered by hotel bills and by bad weather. Left too soon I guess but these arctic blasts this far south have got to be ending.

Bentley is much happier in his kennel. He wants out right away when we stop but gets right back in when we get going.

Gas mileage with the trailer dropped 5 to7 mpg, now getting only about 26 mpg mostly due to worsened aerodynamics.
