Galveston houses

I added 12 photos of houses around Galveston to the Galveston gallery. Of many spectacular homes the most amazing is the Bishop’s Palace. Built between 1887 and 1893 by Galveston architect Nicholas J. Clayton for lawyer and politician Walter Gresham, in 1923 the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galveston purchased the house, and, situated across the street from the Sacred Heart Church, it served as a bishop’s residence.

It is considered to be one of the most representative Victorian style homes in America and the American Architects Institution voted it one of the top 100 significant buildings in this country.

I’m glad we came here. Of course there is much poverty here as well and I posted a couple of photos showing the contrast.

We leave tomorrow without seeing many of the tourist attractions but I wouldn’t be surprised is we return.
