We crossed on the ferry after noon yesterday after waiting for the light rain to stop. It cleared up about the time we finished loading up the trike and trailer and we drove 150 miles to here. We passed through lovely farming country the across the Green Mountains and a couple of ski areas. We got here too late to visit the National Historic Park we will be seeing this morning, then across New Hampshire to Maine.

I was reminded of the Revolutionary War hero we studied in grade school, Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain boys. What they didn’t tell us was that he had first been declared an outlaw by the royal governor of New York because he had originally established the Green Mountain Boys militia to fight for the establishment of what is now Vermont.

When the Revolutionary War broke out he volunteered to serve for that cause. He was taught in grade school for his capture on Fort Ticonderoga on the shores of Lake Champlain. He was also subsequently charged with treason for his actions to establish Vermont after the war.
