Ennis, Montana
We have been camped for the past week on the banks of the Madison River in Ennis, MT. When we left Great Falls we headed south on I-15 past Helenea to Boulder, MT then got onto Hwy 69 US 287 into Ennis. The interstate follows the Missouri River to Helena through another beautiful mountain range and 69 follows the Boulder River. Ennis is a small town where a couple of people, now married, I went to high school with now live. We had a couple of dinners with them and lunch in the county seat of Virginia City population 150 and where Patty works.
The weather has been off and on with big thunderstorm cells passing through every day we have been here. We decided to stick around so long since Sturgis is a couple or three days easy ride from here and it doesn’t start until August 3rd so we needed to kill some time and this is a great place to do that. Our campsite is in the shade in a Montana fishing access that allows camping for 12 bucks night or half that with a Montana fishing license that I don’t have. Still a good deal and we are only a mile from a decent grocery store and a touristy area.
Internet and cell coverage are marginal here, I am in an internet cafe that closes in 5 minutes so i gotta go. Should get better tomorrow when we leave, depending whether we do a short day to West Yellowstone or go clear through the park up and over an 11,000 foot pass called Beartooth and to Red Lodge.
We are both getting ready to get home, we have been living off the bike for 141 days today!!
