Farmington to Escalante, UT
The day was almost overwhelming. We rode over 400 miles which included 100 miles through the Glen Canyon. The road goes along the bottom of the canyon and the views and geology are spectacular. It all has already become a blur. The riding was excellent as well but the afternoon was incredibly hot. We stopped frequently to drink liters of water
We took a short detour to the only spot in the US where four states share a commmon border. Known as ….. Four Corners!
The first hundred miles of the ride was through country I can only describe as intimidating. High desert with no water and only scrub sage brush growing.
Escalante is a small town of some 200? full time residents but has half a dozen hotels. We we turned down a room at 4 of them because of Bentley but finally found an older sort of run down place that accepted him. Turned out to be a pretty decent room for 55 bucks a night.
While we were getting our bags off the trailer a guy on a motorcycle pulled up. Turns out he owns a motorcycle shop here and was drumming up business. We will be stopping by his shop to see if he can repair the cruise control which broke not long after we left Oregon.
Today will be a short day. Probably will get a late start and we don’t want another full day of the heat but will try to find a camp in Zion NP and stay 2 nights before pushing on to the Grand Canyon and then to Sun City where my old friend Glen Horsmann lives.
Then on to the motorhome, hopefully by Sunday.
