Tap, tap, is anybody there?
I wonder if this thing still works? After the long lay off I started getting a bunch of spam on the Rant blog which got me looking at the blogging software, b2evo, and one thing led to another and I changed some settings to ward off the spammers and then upgraded the version from 2.5 to 3.1. Did it all by myself this time. Last time I had to get help from the outfit that hosts this website.
I hadn’t even looked at the blog or the stats for a couple of months when I started getting emails notifying me of new comments in the Rant blog. The comments were innocuous enough, a single sentence complimenting the blog but the header had ads. I hadn’t seen that before but it appears that the fixes so far are stopping it.
I added a function (called a turing test) so that if you want to post a comment you have to answer a simple question. Sorry about that but there are so few comments here that I don’t think it’s a problem and the spam stuff was starting to get out of hand.
The backend of this new version of b2evo is much more polished with some new functions that I am justing starting to learn.
I’ve said this before, it would be nice if a few folks would post comments, I was getting into the blog despite the lack of response because the hits were going up as counted by b2evo. The counts on my server revealed that only some 30 to 40 individuals were accounting for the 100 plus hits the b2evo was counting. That’s cool but knowing the small number of regular visitors it seems a few of you would say hello once in a while. So say hey!! I get an email if you do and I promise to respond the same day.
